Assessment & test questions

Are the tests available in a different language?
Currently, we offer tests in:

  • English
  • Spanish
  • Dutch
  • German
  • French

However, you can only take your assessment in the language chosen by your prospective employer. If you need to take it in a different language, you'll need to contact the company that sent you the assessment.

Can I go back to a previous question?
No, you cannot. If you attempt to skip a question, we will warn you that you cannot return. If you are unsure of the answer to a question, try guessing. There isn't a penalty for wrong answers. Better to score a point through luck, than to skip and guarantee no points for that question.

Can I try the assessment again?
No. Your invitation link can be used once, and will expire when you've completed your assessment. If you have a concern about your performance and would like to try again, contact the company that sent you the assessment. The decision to allow you to try again is at their discretion.

I have a condition that affects my ability to memorize or concentrate. Do you provide accommodations for me?
Yes! Conditions such as dyslexia, ADD, and ADHD may affect your memory and concentration abilities. At the start of your assessment, you can request an accommodation.

Note: Your request is private. You will be asked if you would like to inform the employer that you requested an accommodation. This is optional. If you do choose to inform the employer, we do not provide details; we only inform them of the given accommodation.

I followed the link but it says, "The assessment is no longer available"/"The assessment is currently unavailable".
This is something in the control of the company you applied to. It could be that they have already closed their assessment. You will need to contact the employer, as TestGorilla cannot make the assessment available if a company has chosen to take it offline.

I need more time to complete my assessment.
If the company has set a deadline, you should take the appropriate steps to complete the assessment within that time frame. If this is not possible, you should contact the company you applied to.

I want to take a test.
We do not offer any of our tests for personal use, studying, or educational purposes, nor do we issue certificates of completion.

The assessment ended after only a few questions.
The company you applied for has likely included qualifying questions in their assessment. These are used to ensure that only candidates who meet their minimum requirements can take the full assessment. If one of your answers disqualifies you, the assessment will end, saving you time.

If you believe you have been disqualified by mistake, you should directly contact the company that invited you. TestGorilla has no authority to allow you to retake the assessment.

What happens if I run out of time?
If the timer expires on an individual test or question, your progress is saved. The next test or question will begin. If you run out of time on the last question, the assessment is marked as complete and results sent to the company.

Why did the timer continue counting down when I left the test?
This is one of our measures to ensure the integrity of the test results. This cannot be turned off. Even if you completely close the test window, the timer will continue to count down. Breaks should only be taken between tests.

Data & privacy questions

Why do I have to accept a privacy policy?
This is standard practice for any website or service that captures information from you. It states how we store your information and who we share it with, in compliance with GDPR. If you do not accept, you will be unable to take your assessment.

Why do I have to accept cookies?
We ask you to allow cookies on the very first screen of your assessment. These cookies allow us to track the technical aspects of your test. This helps us to provide technical support if something goes wrong. In compliance with GDPR, you have the legal right to decline cookies. 

Warning: If you decline cookies, we are unable to provide you with technical support, in most situations.

Why do you need access to my webcam?
We need access to your camera for two reasons:

  • If the company has set any video questions, we need access to your camera for you to to record your answers. Only the company has access to these and they are stored in compliance with GDPR.
  • We take snapshots of you every 30 seconds during your assessment. This is part of our proctoring. It ensures that nobody is helping you and that the assessment taker is the same person who is interviewed or hired. Only the hiring company has access to these snapshots and they are stored within GDPR regulations. The company inviting you to an assessment may choose to disable the snapshot feature. In this case, no snapshots are taken. If there are video questions in your assessment, you will still need to enable your camera.

Warning: You can deny access to your camera and still take the assessment. Keep in mind that the company may choose to deny your application if you do. It also means that you cannot record answers to video questions.

Is TestGorilla GDPR compliant?
Yes. GDPR is Europe’s data privacy and security law, which requires businesses to protect the privacy of EU citizens. For more information about GDPR in general, see the EU's guide to GDPR compliance.

Equipment & connectivity questions

Can I take the assessment on a mobile device?
You can, but it is not recommended.  The small screen size can make answering questions very difficult. We recommend using a laptop or desktop computer with Google Chrome as a browser.

If your assessment contains a test of your programming skills, you'll get a warning discouraging you from using a mobile device. This is because writing code on a mobile device is very difficult.

I don't have a webcam and my assessment has video questions. What should I do?
Do you have access to a different computer that does have a webcam? Can you borrow a camera from a friend? If not then you should contact the company that sent you the assessment. It is recommended to contact the company to make alternate arrangements.

I was disconnected from the internet. When I reconnected, my test was finished.
Your timer continued to count down, even though you left the test. This is a measure to protect the integrity of the test results.

This measure applies to all candidates, even if you are having technical difficulties. If this happens, please contact the company you applied to directly to discuss any accommodation.

My camera display is blank/black.
This can happen for several reasons. Here is what you can do to try and remedy it:

  • Ensure you have granted permission for your browser to access your camera.

  • Ensure you are using a supported browser. Safari is not currently compatible with video questions, so you would need to use a different browser.

  • If you have multiple camera devices, ensure you have given your browser and our website permission to use the right device.

  • Try launching the assessment in incognito mode/in a private window.

  • Ensure your camera drivers and web browser are up to date.

  • Restart your device and try accessing the assessment again using the link in the invitation email.

The questions are loading slowly or my test has frozen.
This is most often a problem with the internet connection. If your connection is slow or unstable, you may face issues loading questions and saving your answers. We recommend running an internet speed test before beginning your assessment. Ideal minimums are:

  • Download speed: 1.5 Mbps
  • Upload speed: 2 Mbps

Reliability is critical. Disconnections, no matter how short, can interrupt communication between your device and our servers.

To be extra cautious, use an ethernet connection or locate yourself as close to your wi-fi router as you can.

We do not recommend using public wifi connections unless you have no other option. These connections are usually shared with many other people, resulting in less stable and slower speeds.

Can I have feedback on my application?
TestGorilla is a software tool used by the company looking to hire. We do not have access to your job application status or feedback on your application. You will need to contact the company you applied to for any information about your job application.

Can I see my results?
The company issuing the assessment can share results with you, though they are not obligated to do so. You need to personally contact them about this. TestGorilla cannot provide results on their behalf.

How do I contact the company I applied to?
You'll need to contact them via any means they have provided in their job posting or on their company website. We do not have contact details we can share for the potential employer.

I am using a public invitation link, but my email address is not accepted. What should I do?
First, check that your email address is typed correctly. All email addresses are processed through an email validation service that prevents the use of high-risk emails.

Your email address may be mistaken for a fraudulent account if:

  • it contains a lot of numbers or characters
  • it is new
  • it is frequently used to send unsolicited emails

If your email address is definitely correct and it is still not being accepted, please contact us by sending an email to help@testgorilla.com from the email address you'd like to use for the assessment.

I have completed my assessment. What happens next?
Your assessment ends with the following message:

Thanks for completing this assessment. You can close this window now.

Your answers are saved and made available to the hiring company. You do not receive a confirmation email regarding the completion of your assessment.

Note: TestGorilla does not play any part in the decision-making process. The decisions are made solely by the hiring company. As such, we cannot provide you with updates or time frames.

I haven't received my email invitation. What should I do?
If you are expecting an invitation from us, please first check your spam folder. If it's there, mark the email as Not Spam. If it is not there, contact us so we can investigate.

I received a reminder but I have already finished my assessment.
You should double-check your assessment to ensure it is fully completed by following the link on the reminder email.

Sometimes, companies have additional questions at the end of the assessment which can be missed. This can result in your assessment not being marked as complete, so it is always best to check.

When should I contact TestGorilla, and when should I contact the hiring company?
If you are experiencing any technical difficulties during your test, or to provide feedback about the assessment content contact us

For everything else (deadlines, test content, the status of your application, etc.) we recommend contacting the company for the fastest and most direct answers, as TestGorilla does not have access to this information.

Can you help me find a job?
Unfortunately not. TestGorilla provides pre-employment skills assessments for companies that are actively hiring. We are not a job placement service. We recommend Indeed, LinkedIn, and similar forums if you are actively looking for work.

Why can't I log in/create an account?
If you have been invited to take an assessment, you do not need to create an account in our system. The prospective employer should have invited you to take the assessment via an email that comes from TestGorilla.

By clicking the link or button found in the invitation, you should be taken to a screen where you will begin your assessment. If you are taken to a login page, please go back to the email invitation and copy & paste the link from the invitation into your browser.
