What can I expect from a TestGorilla assessment?

Assessments are put together by companies using TestGorilla. Each assessment consists of up to 5 tests and up to 20 custom questions.

Applies to: Candidates

  • TestGorilla allows companies to develop personalized assessments to test the skills and abilities of job candidates, rather than rely solely on a resume.

  • Assessments consist of validated tests from our test library, as well as custom questions that companies create themselves.

  • Each assessment can have up to 5 tests and up to 20 custom questions.

  • Most tests have a time limit of 10 minutes, though some tests are up to 30 minutes. While most assessments take 60 - 90 minutes to complete, yours might take more or less time, depending on how it was customized.

  • The custom questions added by prospective employers are unique. The time limits for these questions can vary. There are five different types:

    • multiple-choice

    • essay

    • video, where you'll be asked to record a video response

    • file upload, such as a resume or portfolio

    • custom coding questions, where you'll be asked to complete a computer coding scenario

  • Some assessments include qualifying questions. These are questions set by the company to ensure you meet the minimum requirements set by the company for the position they are hiring for. If you fail to answer these questions sufficiently, you will not be able to continue with the assessment.

Note: If you are disqualified from the assessment and believe this is a mistake, you will need to contact the hiring company directly.

TestGorilla does not have any control over the content of the qualifying questions or the company's scoring criteria, nor can we overturn the decisions made.

Taking an assessment

Here are the basic steps for completing an assessment.

  1. You'll be invited to the assessment by the company you're applying to work at, either directly via email or by requesting an email invitation through a link on their job posting.

  2. Your email invitation will contain a link to the assessment. Click the link to access the assessment when you're ready to start. If clicking the link doesn't work, copy and paste it into the URL bar of your browser.

  3. Enter your personal details to verify who you are.

  4. On the next screen, you will be asked a few questions regarding language difficulties and impairments that you my have. These allow us to make amendments to the assessment if necessary.
  5. At the welcome screen, we'll highlight important things to know before you start, such as how many tests to expect, how long the assessment will take, and general instructions.

  6. Make sure your camera is working, as you'll likely need it for the assessment.

  7. All tests are timed. Once the countdown has started, don't leave the test! The countdown will continue even if you close the assessment window.

  8. Try to finish all questions in the tests, but if you find yourself with only 30 seconds left, it's better to guess than to leave them blank.

  9. If you skip a question, you will not be able to go back to complete it at the end.
  10. After each test, you are asked to evaluate your experience with it. This information is not seen by your potential employer. It is used by us to identify areas where adjustments need to be made.

  11. You can take a break after each test or simply continue with the assessment.

  12. You can provide feedback for the entire assessment after finishing the final test. This is also not shared with the company providing the assessment - only by TestGorilla.

  13. The company you're applying to will contact you about the results.

Note: If you encounter any issues at any time during the assessment, please check our FAQ and Troubleshooting article.

Things to keep in mind

Note: Since companies create their own assessments using TestGorilla, we cannot tell you the specific details of any assessment you're invited to.

If you want to know more about a specific assessment or job posting, we advise you to contact the company you're applying for.
